In partnership with the pulp and paper industry, FMC BioPolymer created a product specific to the industry called Scogin® alginates.  Scogin® alginates work as excellent surface sizers and enhance greaseproof properties, oil resistance, and solvent holdout. In paper coatings, Scogin alginates improve rheology and are pre-eminent water-retention agents. Scogin gives better coating runability than other thickeners, especially in hot, on-machine coating applications. Alginates are also excellent film formers and improve ink holdout and printability.
