More than 20 stages of processing are required to extract the alginate from its natural seaweed source. Regulatory Status of Protacid
Alginic acid and sodium alginate meet the standards set forth in the United States Pharmacopeia/National Formulary and the European Pharmacopoeia, British Pharmacopoeia and the Japanese Exipients Book. Alginic acid, sodium alginate, and potassium alginate meet the standards set forth in the Food Chemicals Codex. Alginic acid, sodium alginate, and potassium alginate are considered Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by qualified experts and are in accordance with United States Food and Drug Regulations.
