FMC BioPolymer Announces AlubraTM Sodium Stearyl Fumarate Capacity Expansion

PHILADELPHIA, March 15, 2012 – FMC BioPolymer has announced a capacity expansion for AlubraTM sodium stearyl fumarate.  With the start-up of a new production line, key process steps in India and the United States now have sufficient capacity to meet anticipated demand.  Validation is currently underway and material will be available for customers in the third quarter of 2012.

Alubra sodium stearyl fumarate is a specialty lubricant that is less hydrophobic than traditional lubricants like magnesium stearate.  Poorly soluble drugs, orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs), and effervescent dosage forms typically require a more hydrophilic lubricant to avoid issues with disintegration and dissolution.  Alubra also offers increased blend time flexibility and excellent compatibility with a wide range of APIs.

“Since our initial launch in late 2010, customers’ interest level has been very high which has led to rapid growth,“ said Dan Rosenbaum, general manager – Pharmaceutical, FMC BioPolymer.  “It’s clear that industry trends are creating a strong demand for less hydrophobic lubricants like AlubraTM and FMC is well-positioned to meet customer needs with this expansion.”
