Alginate occurs in the seaweed as a mix of calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium salts. More than 20 stages of processing are required in order to obtain high quality alginates that offer the exceptional functionality of FMC’s alginates.

FMC BioPolymer manufactures more than 200 grades of alginates – alginic acid and its sodium, sodium triethanolamine, potassium, ammonium, magnesium and calcium salts. In addition, FMC BioPolymer offers different grades of esterified alginate in the form of propylene glycol alginate (PGA).
